I Can See The Shore

I laughed at Mike’s jungle exploits and cried with him over his daughter’s death. Very few people have the opportunity to grow up on both sides of the cultural fence as Mike and I have. Reading this book will highlight the Gospel as a multicultural message. Steve Saint, itecusa.org

I Can See the Shore depicts a life lived among the Yanomamö with gusto and good humor, while personal sorrows are overcome with grace and transcendence. Mike Dawson not only tells his own remarkable story, but also translates the experiences of Yanomamö shamans, warriors, and childhood friends as they struggle with illness and warfare and confrontchoices about how to live as Yanomamö in a modern age.

Growing Up Yanomamö

“This is one of the most well written books that I have ever read. You would think that it was written by Mark Twain with the suspense, challenges and progression of a gifted writer, which I believe Michael Dawson to be, as well as a seasoned veteran of the Yanomamo! You will not be able to put this book down as, just like in Huckleberry Finn, you’re right there with Michael in his many adventures. His heart for the Yanomamo can never be questioned and his dedication to push through some of the most difficult things in life, let alone on a mission field. If you do not read this book, you will be missing out on one of the most literary brilliances in a lifetime. God bless to the Dawsons, their families and to the Yanomamo.” Richard McConnell – Hickory, NC, USA

All The Day Long

“If you are interested in missionary work at all, especially in South America, this is a “must-read”. I sat in awe of the simple faith that inspired such an amazing story. This book is the American missionary side of the FANTASTIC book, “Spirit of the Rainforest: A Yanomamo Shaman’s Story” by Mark Andrew Ritchie.

Today, most of us wait until the exact right time with the exact right funding and support and all the common sense we can muster before we move. The Dawsons show us that when God calls, moving in faith is more important that moving in logic. Highly recommended!” E. Smith – Reston, VA, USA

The Enemy God (DVD)

“The Enemy God” is a dramatized true story about a Yanamamo shaman. The Yanamamo tribe lives in the rain forest in the Amazon basin. They were called “The Fierce People” by an anthropologist (Napoleon Chagnon) that wrote about them.

The story begins as the tribe takes revenge on a different branch of the Yanamamo. The different tribes are similar to the McCoys and Hatfields. Each time a tribe is offended by another tribe, the offended tribe feels justified in killing members of the other tribe. The revenge works both ways, though. Knowing that another tribe may ambush them makes the tribes fearful to even work their fields.  This warfare is encouraged by the shaman (witch doctors), who do drugs to facilitate contacting the spirit world. The spirits that they contact tell them that there’s an all powerful spirit, but that this all powerful spirit is the enemy of the Yanamamo. Therefore, the Yanamamo call the all powerful spirit, “The Enemy God”.  A shaman’s world is challenged when he meets a missionary family. The missionary tells him that this “Enemy God” actually loves the Yanamamo. The shaman has to decide whether to continue to believe the spirits and follow the traditions of the elders, or if he should trust the missionary and see if the “Enemy God” will help him….”
